Microsoft has recommended re-installing Windows periodically - I take that as an acknowledgement that such a thing can happen. To me the likeliest explanation is that the mess exceeded Windows ability to cope with it. Same with cleaning out some of the files you don't want/need. In theory cleaning the registry with an automated software approach shouldn't make much if any difference, but there are always some people saying that it helped them. If it doesn't help, or things go wrong afterward, restore the backup. And I've seen some truly horribly messed up systems.Įasiest way to tell if it can help is after performing a disk image backup, run it & see. I suspect it would help win10 least, compared to earlier versions, since win10 is reinstalled every 6 months or so with the new version upgrades - you can mess up a system far more over the course of years rather than months.
